Turning Your Passion into Your Joy: The Art of Soft Living

The inclusion of passions and hobbies make for a life that can be softer and easier to navigate. Since I was nine years old I've had some kind of hobby that has always included the arts, whether it is writing, photography, fashion design, sewing and drawing. My love of the arts has not only been close to me, but it has softened my life with the inclusion of bright, brilliant colors, designs, creativity and more zest for life.
I keep busy with an active social life with travels to big cities to visit close friends, attending comedy clubs, parties, going to concerts, and going to my favorite fusion resturants. This active schedule includes working my very, very part time job of just three days a week, less than twenty hours. I am semi-retired from teaching at midwest university for over 18 years. But even with my active social life, art has been a deliberate mainstay fulfilling me in multiple ways.
This season of my life, I have returned to fashion design, sewing and fashion illustration with more emphasis lately on the latter. Fashion illustration or drawing the anatomy along with sketching fashion onto the body is not an easy activity. It takes keen observation, understanding how the individual body parts work to present an aesthetically pleasing image to the eyes.
I returned to fashion drawing after a long period of time ( i.e an elementary school kid) during covid. Like everyone else, I was looking for hobbies to keep me busy during this bleak period. I was surprised to discover, I still had the raw talent for it. Since that time, I have been slowly practicing this craft and it has not only been a beautiful process, but fashion illustration is mentally and emotionally relaxing. Art is theraputic along with the fact that it has increased my skill level for drawing. In this post, I will share a few videos of my work with simple explanations. I hope you enjoy.
The first one is turning mistakes into wins. The medium I use are colored pencils.

The second video shows the vibrancy of colored pencils. Colored markers are definitely vibrant, but I wanted to challenge myself to use colored pencils in the same way. Besides because I tend to make mistakes, colored pencils I find are the best medium for me.

The third video, I demonstrate how to make colored pencils appear smoother through the use of blender pencils.

If you are interested in coloring and fashion, I have a book called Take Your Coat off & Stay Awhile: A Fashion Design Coloring & Designer Stories Book It can be found on Amazon. You can purchase it by clicking the link
