In this series, I emphasize that something as simple as coloring implies a soft life and it does! Adult coloring is not much different from coloring as a kid. While that maybe a long time ago to think about, you can probably remember that coloring was never a stressful activity. It was full of joy, fun and creative decisions on what to color, how to color, what colors to use or not to use. It became a serious and focused project. Coloring could send you into a blissful mindset as a kid and the same can be said with adult coloring.
Just a little background, when I was in elementary school my mother introduced me to art by providing me with art supplies in 4th grade. I still remember my colored pencils, paint by number books, watercolors, and sketchbooks. As a fourth grader transitioning into a new school culture she knew I needed something to distract my distress and she was right. Art became my lifelong companion flowering into various forms and mediums. Over the years, art has self-expressed itself as a fashion lover, in writing, photography, fashion design, fashion illustration, sewing and even in my college professor days as a Humanities and culture professor for just about twenty years. Art has stayed with me. It has been my constant. As I have gotten older and semi-retired it has created a softer life for me giving me the same benefits when I was a child. It distracts me from stress, it calms me, it helps me to focus and creative problem solve and typicallyit gives me a beautiful outcome. Something that I have become proud of.
In this series, my art is focused on fashion illustration, drawing specifically. Drawing is very much a challenge as it forces you to think with a different set of skills that improve your cognitive, spatial processes and hand-eye coordination and more.
In these upcoming videos, I will share my art work and processes. I hope you will enjoy!
I have published a fashion design coloring and fashion designer stories book. It is called Take Your Coat off and Stay Awhile: A Fashion Designer Coloring book and Designer stories. It can be purchased on Amazon.
You can also get these artsupplies on Amazon; Watercolor pencils! And, a mixed media sketchpad I love them!
